NextGen Futures London was an 8-week intensive industry-backed training programme that ran in the summers of 2018 and 2019. Funded by the Greater London Authority, the programme delivered an opportunity for Londoners aged 18 to 24 to gain the skills and experience needed to enter the visual effects, animation and post-production industry.

Academic and Industry Supporters

Academic and Industry Skills

The programme and curriculum were developed by NextGen Skills Academy in partnership with Westminster Kingsway College and supported by industry partners. Participants were taught at ZeroOne in Soho using industry standard technology and equipment in a real creative studio. The intense 8-week programme featured a mix of industry masterclasses, workshops, and events with experienced industry professionals and tutors.

Opportunities with some of the UK's biggest studios

The programme garnered industry support from some of the World’s leading VFX studios, with bootcamp participants touring and speaking to artists at ILM, Union VFX, Jellyfish Pictures, Cinesite, and Framestore. Following 8-week bootcamp all participants went onto paid three-month internships in leading studios, setting them up for their entry into the creative industries.

Leaving a legacy of industry trained young creatives

The graduates of NextGen Futures went on to the next steps of their career confident with the industry-taught skills and experience secured through the bootcamps. Some candidates went on to further training with highly-competitive VFX Apprenticeships, while others started rewarding careers in the creative industries.
